It is a remote-based desktop sharing system which use Remote Frame
Buffer (RFB) protocol to GUI interfaces. Generally, we can see the
transference of keyboard and mouse control from one PC to another.
Originally, VNC was launched in a research lab by Olivetti & Oracle developed for utilization within the lab. It is based on Java platform dependent on a peer-to-peer architecture. It has centralized servers and available for different OS.
Operation– VNC server is the host computer which one wants to control. VNC viewer is the client PC where one sets up to exercise control. These host and client PC’s are connected to the same IP network. This sort of network can be private as LAN, VPN or any public network. Typically firewalls and routers must be configured before establishing any connection. The default ports for client PC as a viewer is 5900 and server connection with the browser has default port of 5800. Also, a direct connection can be established between server and viewer at port 5500.
Due to logging and security measures wrapped up VNC traffic with SSL, lacking support of printing remote applications limited to ISDN dial-up or modem connection it is not used much in larger organizations.VNC viewer features include:
• Intuitive remote control and deployment.
• cross-platform support.
• attended and unattended access.
• User and server authentication.
• direct and cloud connectivity.
• File transfer, printing and chat.
• Multilingual support with online team management.
